Cast Iron Radiators Frequently Asked Questions
Q, Why are your Cast Iron Radiators such great value?
CastIronRadiators.com is most competitive retailer of cast iron radiators in the UK - we have the lowest prices Guaranteed. We can say this confidently because we are the manufacturer of this product. We keep our prices on this site the most competitive because we offer a limited range of our most popular cast iron radiators in a limited range of our most popular colours and finishes - this allows us to keep costs down and stay the most competitive in the UK. If you have seen similar products at a lower price, you will be looking at a product assembled in Asia and using Chinese Gaskets / Joining Threads. We only use British made CE rated Gaskets on all of our cast iron radiators and European made joining threads. If you find radiators that are slightly cheaper, these must be non British gaskets. Our 10 year guarantee is based on using British made components. We subscribe to the industry code of conduct on only using the best parts in our cast iron radiators.
Q, Are Cast Iron radiators efficient?
Cast Iron radiators are very efficient - but they are different to modern pressed steel radiators. Cast iron heats up and cools slowly so when your boiler is turned on it will take longer to emit heat from your cast iron radiators than if you were to have pressed steel radiators that heat up very quickly and disseminate heat very quickly. Likewise, after your boiler is turned off your cast iron radiators will continue to emit the built up heat. Therefore the energy output is the same as a modern pressed steel radiator - but over an extended period of time. Our customers have found that in Cast Iron Radiators do tend to be more suitable for traditional properties, especially stone properties where slow and steady heat is required over longer periods of time.
Q, Why are our longest standard radiators approximately 1.2m long?
The main reason why the cast iron radiators offered on this site are all under 1200mm is because we use pallet partners to deliver our product and therefore your cast iron radiators have to fit on a pallet. If you want a larger cast iron radiator, call us direct on 03333 448 447 and we will supply your radiator in two parts with a joining tool.
Yes, all Cast Iron radiators of all designs are guaranteed for at least 10 years - a lifetime guarantee. We test all of our sections individually and only use British made gaskets and joining threads. Our Cast Iron Radiators are made using traditional techniques and as long as they are looked after should last a lifetime. We deal with many reclaimed radiators that are over a century old, there is no reason why your Cast Iron Radiator should not continue to warm your home for generations to come.
Q, Are your cast iron radiators guaranteed?
Q, How do I work out how big my Cast Iron radiator needs to be?
The easiest way to work this out is to measure your room and input the dimensions into our BTU calculator. Alternatively, if you would like us to work this out please forward your room dimensions to us at info@CastIronRadiators.com and we will work it out for you.
Q, What size pipe work is required?
Our cast iron radiators generally take ½” BSP (British Standard Pipe). The diameter of the pipe work required to supply your cast iron radiators will be determined by the systems supply requirement. Q, What colour can I have my Cast Iron radiators in?
Q, Do I need wallstays?Wallstays should always be used with our Cast Iron radiators. They stabilise the Cast Iron radiator and prevent the radiator from being accidentally knocked over. Cast Iron Radiators are very heavy, when they have water in they are very very heavy. It is human nature to run your hand over the top of a warm cast iron radiator - wall stays are essential.

We recommend using Ph neutral inhibitors with your cast iron radiators, but NO caustic/corrosive/acidic plumbing compounds or liquids are to be used on or in any part of our cast iron radiators, our valves or connections. If aggressive flushing agents are used in our cast iron radiators, the water in your system must be neutralised correctly following their use appropriate crystals or similar. Where caustic and/or corrosive compounds (liquid or other) have been introduced into the radiator(s) which have caused damage to gaskets, this will invalidate any guarantee offered.
